Meals on Wheels

All our meals are developed by dieticians with expertise in nutrition for older adults, and a range of special diets are available. Hot meals are prepared fresh each morning, and we have over 50 frozen meal selections.

If you are interested in getting meals, you will be assessed for program eligibility and any specific dietary requirements. This could be over the phone or in person at your home. There will be periodic re-assessments.

Ordering

For hot meals, you simply indicate how often you want meals delivered and on what days when you register. This service plan will be followed until you make a change.

Frozen meal and special diet orders should be placed by Tuesday for delivery on Thursday. Orders can be placed by phone 416.646.3574, fax 416.750.1310 or email [email protected]

Delivering & Safety

Your safety is our priority. Meals will be delivered between 11:30 and 1:30. For food safety reasons you must be home to receive delivery of your meal or let us know in advance if you have arranged for someone, perhaps a neighbour, to accept it for you and refrigerate it until you return.

If a volunteer tries to deliver your meal and doesn’t find you at home as expected, we will call the emergency contact you have provided to confirm your safety and well-being or, if necessary, emergency authorities.

Cancellation

A minimum of 24 hours (1 business day) notice is required for cancellation without charge. For example, to cancel a Wednesday meal, we would need to know Monday or before Tuesday 8:30 am. (You can leave a message on our voice mail).

Billing

Occasionally it may not be possible to deliver your meal; for example, a severe winter snowstorm. You would be called that morning to let you know. We recommend clients keep some non-perishable items at home for emergencies.
You will be billed monthly for the meals in the previous month. You can pay by cheque or money order. A pre-addressed envelope will be enclosed with your invoice.
